The Worms

1985 · Doubleday

Centuries ago in colonial Massachusetts, a coven buried an unspeakable evil deep within an iron casket. In modern times the coastal town of Province builds a municipal toxic waste dump over the forgotten burial ground, cracking the seal. When Felicity Cramer returns home with her fiancé Paul, she finds her brother Jeremy hospitalized after an attack at the dump — and watches his flesh dissolve into a pale, undulating larva. With poisonous fog cutting off the roads and the mutating townspeople setting the village ablaze, a handful of survivors make a stand against an unholy infestation.
